That means the rest of your financial life should usually be built to reduce concentration risk, improve tax efficiency, and create flexibility outside the business. In plain English, don’t let all of your wealth, retirement plan, and future income depend on a single enterprise, no matter how much you believe in it.

Too many people give at a tactical level—responding to the latest ask, writing checks out of habit, and hoping the money lands somewhere useful. Strategic philanthropy begins when you decide what you actually want to change in the world and then make your giving match that mission, your values, and the tools available to you.

In other words, get clear on your cash flow, savings, severance, benefits, and next available sources of income before making big moves with investments or long-term accounts. When life gets uncertain, order is more valuable than speed.
