Certified Financial Planners have a proven blueprint for success—but your planner builds it entirely around you.

Summarized from the CFP® Board's Practice Standards. cfp.net
I started on the sell-side at a broker-dealer in 1998 and moved to the fiduciary buy-side in 2006, joining Boston Research & Management. I became president in 2025. BRM is an independent, fee-only fiduciary RIA in Manchester-by-the-Sea managing roughly $700 million for individuals, families, and nonprofits. What sets our firm apart is that planning and portfolio management aren't separate functions handled by separate institutions — we do both. Our research is done in-house, building portfolios of individual securities and fixed income instruments rather than outsourcing to third-party funds and models. That work feeds directly into retirement income planning, tax-aware strategy, concentrated stock position management, and coordination with your attorney and CPA. I continue to work directly with many of our clients. We don't use a service team model; instead, you work with the specialists on our team whose expertise fits what you need at the time - all while maintaining the same point person. We believe investors should have direct access to their portfolio manager — and that the manager should be accountable for the results. Outsourcing to third parties adds expenses and puts distance between you and the people managing your money.
